The conflict and chaos of 2025 has been alarming. When the news we consume is determined by algorithms and attention-seeking media, democracy can run off the rails. The Conversation exists to stop this happening.

We produce journalism that is sober, clear and useful. Our focus is on solving problems and we never turn up the dial on conflict. Our aim is to produce journalism that makes it possible to address the big issues we face, such as climate change, housing and geopolitical upheaval. 

We work exclusively with academics to share their knowledge and research. We give away our journalism for free to readers and republishers. Instead of building a paywall and charging subscribers, we depend on the kindness of people like you who care about evidence-based journalism.  

You can help us by donating to our annual campaign. In past years we’ve been humbled by your generosity and today I’m asking that you please help us in 2025.

In the past year, we have published more than 5,000 experts and expanded our coverage of climate change and under-reported areas of public policy. With your help, we’ve boosted our team in Canberra and made new appointments in health, science and digital storytelling. 

But there is so much more we need to do. Thoughtful young people are increasingly avoiding news and losing trust in the media. Next year, with your help, we’d like to connect with thousands more people who get their information online. Everyone should have access to the facts, not just a privileged few.
