It had been five years since my last real date. The post-divorce rebound taught me to be cautious, and looking online left me feeling empty, so I tried not to want a man in my life. Maybe I was better off single. Maybe the dogs, my most loyal companions, would be enough.
In January 2011, I promised myself I wouldn’t look anymore, at least until my daughter graduated from high school in June.
