Wominjeka! ABC science reporter Jacinta Bowler chuffed to be with you again.
Are you EV-curious?
I know I am. I've kept the same car for almost 10 years now, and I'm hopeful the next car I buy will be an electric vehicle or EV.
Realistically, though, on my salary (and love of second-hand goods) I'll probably look at getting a used EV rather than a new one.
That brings with it a whole new set of questions, ones that I don't know the answers to, like: Will the battery die on me? How do I check if it's still in good condition? Are there any rules and regulations I can rely on?
Well, good news! ABC tech reporter Ellen Phiddian has done a deep dive into the second-hand EV market, with more positive results than you might think.
If battery monitoring isn't your thing, don't stress — this week is also a great week to be a stargazer. The Eta Aquariid meteor shower will be at its best tomorrow for Australians, and there's a 50-year-old Soviet spacecraft likely to crash back to Earth around Saturday.
What a time to be alive!
Finally, I'd be remiss if I didn't tell you to listen to this story from Lab Notes that has it all: A man who let 200 deadly snakes bite him, a new development for antivenom and a whole lot of horses.
Have feedback? We love to hear what you've got to say via email.
P. S. Thanks so much for your great underrated animals! I particularly like the wide variety of insects submitted — all equally underrated in my opinion. If you have any last-minute ideas, chuck us your thoughts here.
