Tech Across the Globe

AI restrictions: Advanced Micro Devices, the chipmaker challenging Nvidia in the market for artificial intelligence processors, said restrictions on the sale of those chips to China will cost the company $1.5 billion in revenue this year.

Microsoft products: Microsoft, trying to stir interest in its AI software, introduced two lower-end versions of its Surface devices that can use those tools — a 13-inch laptop and a 12-inch tablet.

OpenAI purchase: OpenAI has agreed to buy Windsurf, an AI-assisted coding tool formerly known as Codeium, for about $3 billion, the ChatGPT maker’s largest acquisition to date.

This Week in Q&AI

OpenAI’s announcement that it would no longer seek to become a full for-profit company doesn’t end the complicated corporate restructuring for the artificial intelligence firm, reports Shirin Ghaffary in today’s Q&AI. The company’s plan, which hasn’t yet been fully unveiled in public, will need the approval of investors such as Microsoft and state attorneys general in California and Delaware, she reports.
