 Dear Hybla Valley Elementary Community,
We are proud to share that our 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students have successfully completed their Reading SOL assessments, and our 5th graders have also finished their Science SOL. We commend our Huskies for their hard work, focus, and determination during this important time. For any students who were absent on their scheduled testing days, make-up testing will be provided to ensure every student has the opportunity to demonstrate their learning.
Looking ahead, our students will be taking their Math SOL next week. We know they will continue to give their best effort, and we’re confident they’ll finish strong!
As we enter the final five weeks of the school year, we have a number of exciting events on the horizon. Please save the following dates:
-
Tuesday, June 3rd – Heritage Night: Join us in celebrating the diverse cultures that make our school community so special.
-
Wednesday, June 4th – Spring Concert: Enjoy performances by our 4th, 5th, and 6th grade orchestra, band, and chorus students.
-
Friday, June 6th – Field Day: A fun-filled day of outdoor activities for all students!
-
Tuesday, June 10th – 6th Grade Promotion Ceremony and Party: A special day to honor our 6th graders as they prepare to move on to middle school.
-
Wednesday, June 11th – Last Day of School: This will be a two-hour early release day. Students will be dismissed at 2:05 PM.
Thank you for your continued support as we wrap up a wonderful school year. Let’s finish strong, Huskies!
Warmly,
Your Hybla Valley Elementary Administration Team
The Hybla Valley Girls on the Run team completed their community impact project by making a difference at the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria. Our team created persuasive adoption posters for pets needing a home. These posters will be hung up at the animal shelter, highlighting the reasons the pets should be adopted.
Way to go, Huskies!
Monday, May 12, 2025
Students will be dismissed at 1:05 PM.
A letter was sent home to families on Monday, May 5th and needs to be signed and returned to the school by Friday, May 9th.
We need to know if: 1) You have childcare and your student will go home at 1:00 PM, 2) You do not have childcare and your student will stay at school until 4:00 PM, 3) Your child will go to SACC.
Getting a good night's sleep and eating a healthy breakfast are especially important during SOL testing at Hybla Valley Elementary, which began on April 30. For students in grades 3–6, being well-rested helps with focus, memory, and problem-solving skills, all of which are key to doing their best on the test. A nutritious breakfast gives their brains the energy they need to stay alert and think clearly throughout the morning. Taking care of their bodies helps students show what they truly know!
Our 3rd through 6th grade Huskies did such an amazing job on their Reading SOL test in week one. Let's make sure they are ready for the Math SOL next week. We've got this!
Save the date! We hope to see you at our Heritage Night on Tuesday, June 3rd for an evening of fun, food, and culture!
Save the date! Our 4th, 5th, and 6th grade orchestra, band, and chorus students have been practicing so hard all year and are ready to showcase their talents at our Spring Concert.
FCPS will offer a new Montessori program in the West Potomac pyramid. The program will begin in the 2025-26 school year, starting with multi-age classrooms at the pre-K and kindergarten levels.
The program will be located at Bucknell Elementary School. Families of 3, 4, and 5 year olds are invited to apply through a lottery process. Eligible families must have a verified residence in the West Potomac pyramid — Belle View, Fort Hunt, Groveton, Hollin Meadows, Hybla Valley, Stratford Landing, or Waynewood elementary schools.
Riverside Elementary School is a split feeder school with students residing in boundaries that feed both the Mount Vernon High School Pyramid and the West Potomac pyramid. Students who are zoned for Riverside Elementary School and reside in the West Potomac pyramid are also eligible.
Use the FCPS Boundary Locator System to find which school your student is zoned to attend.
Bucknell families may choose to access this program that will be offered within their base school. Families zoned for Bucknell must complete the lottery application to indicate their interest. Four- and five-year olds who are zoned for Bucknell will have automatic acceptance. Three-year olds who are zoned for Bucknell will be entered into the lottery. The program is free and transportation will be provided. Funding for this program is provided by the U.S. Department of Education’s Magnet Schools Assistance Program.
The program will expand each year to include the next grade level. For example, in School Year 2026-27, there will be Montessori classrooms available for first grade students.
