Bike to Work Day is almost here. On May 15, thousands of participants from all over the region can ride up to a pit stop for some breakfast, a collectible t-shirt, and other goodies. The event is free, but make sure to register.

Get your dancing shoes ready for the fifth Arlington Palooza at Lubber Run Community Center. The free event has something for everyone, including live music, food trucks, dance lessons, and animal encounters. 

On Your Left

Arlington is a bike-friendly community. Look for and expect bikes as you drive and exit your vehicle to help make our streets safe for everyone. 

• Learn more about upcoming transportation, stormwater, and utility infrastructure projects in Arlington. Join a special open house event on May 20. 
  
  
• Give your thoughts on the final draft for the public space at 2500 Wilson Boulevard. The feedback deadline is May 20. 
  
  
• Have you seen the draft design for the Monroe Park Playground Renovation? Review the project and tell us what you think. 
  
  
• The County is almost ready to renovate the 23rd and Eads Park, a small park nestled in National Landing. Tell us what you think about the design. 

• A potentially rabid fox is at large in Arlington. One fox has already tested positive for rabies in the Highland Park – Overlee Knolls neighborhood. If you, your child, or your pet may have come into contact with a fox in this area, please call Animal Control at 703-931-9241 immediately.
  
  
• On May 8, the Arlington Sister City Association presents a panel discussion highlighting the roles Arlington's sister cities played on Victory Day in 1945.
  
  
• The 2024 Annual Aircraft Noise Report provides information and analysis of flight operations and noise complaint statistics for local airports.
  
  
• There is one week left to apply for up to $500,000 in one-time funding to expand and enhance digital inclusion activities in Arlington.
  
  
• The Arlington County Board will consider and act on several items at its upcoming Regular and Recessed County Board Meetings. 
   
• Next week is National Police week. The Arlington County Police Department is using the occasion to inform people about new career opportunities.
  
  
• Join Arlington County staff and partners for a half-day of educational workshops at the Tenant Summit on May 17.
  
  
• WorldPride DC 2025 kicks off May 16 with the Show Your Pride: Light Projection and Block Party at the Bozman Government Center Plaza.

Flying into the Record Books

Did you know that the first full-scale public performance of a Wright airplane happened here in Arlington back in 1908? With its proximity to Washington and home to the Army’s Signal Corps Aeronautical Division, Arlington’s Fort Myer was a logical place to test the Wright brothers’ heavier-than-air flying machine.
