Last July, a collaborative mission set off from Freeport, Texas, and was headed directly to Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary. The sanctuary research team, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Moody Gardens, lionfish hunters, academic partners, and SAC members were all on board. Moody Gardens also invited KPRC 2’s chief meteorologist and station videographer to document the collaboration between all of these community organizations.
The one-hour special was released on KPRC 2 for the greater Houston area on April 24, 2025, and can be found on YouTube. We invite everyone to watch the special and share it with their friends and family.
Since the special's initial airing, sanctuary staff have used snippets from the special in education programs, teachers have shown it in their classrooms, and watch parties have been held in conference rooms across the country.
VSFS Intern Completes Web Internship
This school year, Delaney Foster, a senior at Boston University, joined the sanctuary team as a Virtual Student Federal Service (VSFS) e-intern. Delaney worked to develop and update the sanctuary's web content. Some of the pages completed during her internship are the Ocean Guardian School Alumni, Ciguatera Fish Poisoning, and Seasonal Highlights pages on our website.
