Americans have changed their opinions on war with Iran almost as quickly as a B-2 can streak from Missouri to the Middle East. Last week our polling showed that just 16% of Americans supported an attack, and 60% were opposed. Our latest survey, carried out after Donald Trump’s strikes, now finds public opinion
polarised along party lines.
The conflict will no doubt distract NATO leaders meeting at The Hague tomorrow for the alliance’s annual summit. Mr Trump may bail to focus on the war. Even if he does,
his influence will be unavoidable.
Aside from Iran, the agenda will be dominated by one of Mr Trump’s favourite hobbyhorses: defence spending. |
