Israel and Iran have agreed to U.S. President Donald Trump’s ceasefire proposal after a round of bombings by both sides which included a limited Iranian attack on a U.S. military base in Qatar.

However, there were early indications the ceasefire could be tenuous after the Israeli military reported Iranian missiles had been fired, a claim Iran denied.

On Tuesday morning, Israel and Iran each confirmed the ceasefire which Mr. Trump announced Monday evening, with both sides claiming success.

In a statement, the Israeli government said all of its military objectives had been completed. “Israel thanks President Trump and the United States for their support in defense and their participation in eliminating the Iranian nuclear threat. In light of achieving the objectives of the operation, and in full co-ordination with President Trump, Israel has agreed to the president’s proposal for a bilateral cease-fire,” the statement said.
