A huge shout out this week to the South County students and community that came out in huge numbers Friday to support the boy's basketball team as they took on crosstown rivals, Hayfield! Our hope in the Activities Department is to build this type of excitement and environment for all of student's competitions. I would personally like to encourage you to come out to cheer on our gymnastics, track, wrestling, swim/dive and girls basketball programs with the same vigor!
It was a busy week for the Stallion athletic programs, starting Tuesday when our Gymnastics program headed to West Potomac for their second competition of the year. Competing across four apparatuses, the girls showed their wide range of skills on the floor, uneven bars, balance beam and vault. If you've never been to a meet, South County will be hosting tomorrow (Monday) at 6pm providing a great opportunity to catch the excitement!
The Girl's Basketball team started their week off on Tuesday as well, hosting the Eagles of Thomas Edison and got hot early, taking an early lead and building on it until the end to finish with a 75-40 victory. They then travelled to Hayfield on Tuesday and returned with their second win of the week, downing the Hawks, 59-42.
In addition to their thrilling 59-46 victory over Hayfield on Friday night in front of a packed house, the Boy's Basketball team travelled to Edison for a potential preview of a late round regional game and in a tight back and forth game, the Stallions held on for a 66-62 win.
The Indoor Track team had their second TJ meet on Friday, before heading the Haymarket for the Bobcat Blizzard Invitational on Saturday. On Friday the team had outstanding performances by Sophia Jarrett who won the 55-m dash with a time of 8.21s and Zain McCain who took 2nd in the 55-m with a time of 7.07s. Both the girl's and boy's 4x200 relay teams also took second at the event. On Saturday, the girl's team was led by Mykal Mason who took 2nd in the 55m and 3rd in the 300m and Tyler Hunt who jumped her way to 2nd in the high jump. The boys were led by their distance runners with Carter Haransky taking 4th in the 500 and Ben Kosowski topping the field in the 3200m run. Omar Bah jumped an impressive 37'10" to take 2nd in the triple jump.
Swim and Dive had their two meet week this week, first travelling to the Minnie Howard Campus to take on Alexandria City. On a night that saw the meet called ahead of the final event due to pool conditions, the Stallions earned team victories for both the boys and the girls teams behind multiple region cuts, a first place in girls dive and second on the boys side. Saturday saw the Stallions take on perennial swim powerhouse Robinson. Despite not getting the wins as a team, there were multiple personal bests and more region cuts achieved on both the boys and girls side.
Wrestling hosted C.D. Hylton, Yorktown and John Paul the Great on Thursday in grueling quad match. Despite a few key injuries and athletes out with sickness, the Stallion grapplers earned convincing wins over Yorktown and Hylton before losing a close one to a tough JPG team.

Concession Stand Volunteers
We are excited for the Fall sports season and we NEED your help! In order for us to keep our concession stand up and running we need volunteers to assist us on game nights. The revenue generated through concessions serves as the SCHS Athletic Booster Club's primary source of funding. The money earned goes right back to the sports teams to cover the costs of equipment, uniforms, and more! Any family can volunteer! You do not need to have a student participating in Sports to make an impact! Visit the link below and consider helping us out one night! Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
