Good morning and welcome to the Sunday edition of Morning Wire, where we give you the weekend rundown to get ready for the week ahead. Today, police have a person of interest in custody over the shooting at Brown University; President Donald Trump pledges retaliation after three Americans are killed in an attack in Syria; and Belarus frees dozens of political prisoners as the U.S. lifts sanctions.

Gunmen kill at least 11 people in attack on Hanukkah celebration on Sydney's Bondi Beach

Two gunmen attacked a Hanukkah celebration on a Sydney beach Sunday, killing at least 11 people in what Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called an act of antisemitism and terrorism. The massacre at one of Australia’s most popular and iconic beaches followed a wave of antisemitic attacks that have roiled the country over the past year. Read more.

Police in Rhode Island say they have a person of interest in custody after a shooting at Brown University killed two students and wounded nine others. Trump pledges retaliation after 3 Americans are killed in Syria attack that the US blames on IS

President Donald Trump said Saturday that “there will be very serious retaliation” after two U.S. service members and one American civilian were killed in an attack in Syria that the United States blames on the Islamic State group. The American president told reporters at the White House that Syria’s president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, was “devastated by what happened” and stressed that Syria was fighting alongside U.S. troops.
