The massacre of 15 people in Sydney Australia yesterday is being called an act of terrorism. It was carried out by father and son team, the father has been killed, the son is in the hospital. These two targeted Jewish people at a Hanukkah celebration. It’s just beyond comprehension, this level of hatred. But then, towards people of the Jewish faith, it is sadly not new. When will we ever move past this? How do people get so hate filled? And then, the horrific killing of two students at Brown University: not much is known about the shooter or his motivation. They had someone in custody, but he was released last night. The GOP is struggling to come up with a health care plan. Obamacare tax subsidies set to expire in a few weeks; Dems are all behind extending them. Many Americans will be financially forced to end their health care if they end. Some GOP lawmakers are in agreement with democrats, and want to extend them because their constituants want that; Trump has bad mouthing Obamacare so repeatedly (and recently), it’s causing the GOP to split, and their plans are muddled.. “He [Trump] doesn’t understand the hell that people are going through as they prepare to pay these hugely high health care costs,” said Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut, a member of Senate Democratic leadership. Trump is being sued by a preservation group over the White House ballroom project. Filed on Friday by the National Trust for Historic Preservation in the US district court for the District of Columbia, the challenge represents the most significant attempt yet to stop Trump’s 90,000-sq-ft addition to the White House complex. “No president is legally allowed to tear down portions of the White House without any review whatsoever – not President Trump, not President Joe Biden, and not anyone else,” the complaint reads. “And no president is legally allowed to construct a ballroom on public property without giving the public the opportunity to weigh in.” But he’s also being sued by preservationist Mydelle Wright, according to Heather Cox Richardson, who seeks to stop Trump from destroying 4 buildings with historic content and architecture. Wright says that “President Donald J. Trump is trying to get around the law to bulldoze four historic federal buildings.” This story was reported in Bloomberg, and also by Substack writer Timothy Noah of Backbench. It’s outrageous that trump thinks he can just destroy public property and I’m glad that miss Wright is taking this action before he hires A bulldozer to just do what he did to the east wing. Here are some beautiful Ben Shaun murals that Noah shared are at risk of being destroyed. He is one of my favorite artists, about whom I’ve written about before. And the Epstein files stll have not been released. Thanks for being here. I hope you have a good Monday, I’ll see you tomorrow. Off to get my broken wrist X-rayed again, hoping this cast comes off in two weeks! You're currently a free subscriber to Seeing Things. For the full experience, upgrade your subscription. |
