That’s a Wrap Fairfax!

As we officially bring the 2025–2026 school year to a close, I want to take a moment to reflect on everything we have accomplished together and express my deepest gratitude to the entire Lion Nation.

Thank You to Our Families & Staff

First, to our FHS families: thank you for your steadfast partnership. Education is a collaborative journey, and your support at home has been vital to our collective success.

To our extraordinary teachers and staff: thank you for bringing your deep content knowledge, passion, and unwavering dedication to our classrooms every single day. Your continued support of our Lions ensures that FHS remains a place where students truly thrive.

Celebrating Student Achievement

To our students: congratulations on a fantastic year! We have seen tremendous growth and achievement across the board, particularly within our core academic focus areas. Furthermore, I am incredibly proud of our collective commitment to daily attendance this year—showing up is the first step toward success, and you all proved that daily.

End-of-Year Logistics & Summer Support

As we transition into the summer months, please take note of these immediate academic updates:

  • Credit Continuation & SOL Prep: For the next two weeks, FHS will be hosting credit continuation and SOL prep sessions right here on campus to help students close out course requirements.
  • Summer School Registration: If your student failed a course this year, please reach out to their school counselor or Director of Student Services immediately to ensure they are correctly registered for summer school classes.
  • Report Cards: Final report cards will be available on June 22 via SIS ParentVUE.

Look Ahead: Summer Information & Welcome Events

Please keep an eye on your email over the coming weeks for details regarding our upcoming summer programming and preparatory sessions:

  • Rolling Gradebook Information Sessions: We will be hosting sessions focused on our rolling gradebooks, specifically highlighting how this model targets standards and skills mastery to support student growth.
  • Lions on the Rise, August 5-7: Enrollment details for our Lions on the Rise program will be sent in a few weeks! This is a great opportunity to support Freshman transition.
  • Freshman Orientation: Keep a lookout for dates and scheduling info so we can officially welcome the newest members of our Lion family to the building! We will host both an evening and morning event.
  • Open House will be held August 20, 1:30-4:30- This will provide you an opportunity to preview your schedule, pick up parking passes, tour the school, check out your laptop,  and meet your teachers.

Thank you all for a remarkable school year. I wish you a safe, restful, and rejuvenating summer break.

Go Lions!

Program Spotlight

Congrats, Jason Smolinski, on your successful Geospatial Analysis program

Thank you, Mr. Smolinski, for building a flagship program at Fairfax High School. Through your Geospatial program you have done so much more than teach Geographic Information Systems (GIS)—you have ignited lasting passion, curiosity, and future careers within the walls of your classroom.

By introducing students to industry-standard software and the power of spatial thinking, you have equipped them with the tools to analyze data, map the world, and solve real-world problems. Your dedication has inspired many to pursue GIS in college and beyond, leaving a legacy of innovation and leadership. Thank you for charting a path for our future leaders.

We wish you all the best!

FHS Alumni Geospatial Student gets Published in NatGeo

2023 graduate, Emma Dilic, was a 2-year Geospatial student at FHS, and now attends Virginia Tech. Her first National Geographic map was published recently! This would not have been possible without our GIS program, and the support of her amazing teacher, Mr. Smolinski. Congrats, Emma!
