A Message from Principal Peterson
That's a Wrap, Riverside!
As we close the chapter on another school year, I find myself reflecting on just how much our students, staff, and families have accomplished together.
This year was filled with learning, growth, celebration, and countless moments that reminded us why Riverside is such a special place. From the first day of school to the last, our students showed resilience, curiosity, kindness, and determination. They tackled new challenges, discovered new interests, built friendships, and achieved goals they may not have thought possible at the beginning of the year.

Throughout the year, we celebrated academic growth, artistic performances, athletic achievements, attendance milestones, family events, cultural celebrations, and community partnerships. We watched our students perform on stage, showcase their talents, explore future careers, participate in field trips and field day activities, and demonstrate leadership throughout our school. Every event, every lesson, and every accomplishment contributed to making this a memorable year.
To our families, thank you for your partnership. Your support, encouragement, and trust make an incredible difference in the lives of our students and our school community. We are grateful for the many ways you volunteered, attended events, communicated with teachers, and worked alongside us throughout the year.

And to our students, thank you for making Riverside a place filled with joy, laughter, creativity, and learning. We are proud of all you have accomplished this year.
As summer begins, I encourage everyone to take time to rest, recharge, read a good book, spend time with loved ones, and create new memories. We look forward to welcoming our returning Rockets back in the fall and celebrating the exciting opportunities that await us in the new school year.

Provide Feedback on Secondary Mathematics Instructional Resource
FCPS will adopt new mathematics instructional resources for Math 6 (middle school only) through Algebra 2 for the 2026-27 school year. A review committee composed of community members, administrators, and teachers met to review materials submitted by vendors. The public is invited to review and provide feedback on the proposed resource.
Access the proposed resource for middle school Math 6 through Algebra 2 in person or on the Mathematics Basal Resource webpage from Saturday, June 13, to Sunday, July 12. Those reviewing instructional materials will provide feedback through a digital form. All community feedback will be shared with the review committee and the Fairfax County School Board before a board vote in July.
Hard copies of instructional materials will be available for review at Willow Oaks Welcome Center, Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you need to review materials outside of these hours, please email MathBasalReview@fcps.edu.
Calendar Survey
FCPS values your input as we plan future school calendars. On Friday, June 5, all caregivers and FCPS staff received an email from noreply@fcps.edu containing a unique link to complete the FCPS Calendar Survey.
If you have not had a chance to respond, please take a few minutes to share your priorities and perspectives by Monday, June 22, at 11:59 p.m.
Your individual responses will be kept confidential and will not be shared with school staff or used in any way that identifies you or your student. Only aggregate, summary-level results will be reported to the Fairfax County School Board.
If you do not receive a link to the survey or have technical difficulties completing the survey, please contact the FCPS Office of Research and Program Evaluation.
Summer Resources Help Students Stay Curious, Healthy, and Busy
FCPS’ Summer Resource Guide has activities and tips on a variety of subjects and interests, from camps and activities to health and safety resources.
Be sure to check back over the summer, as more resources may be added.
Learning Doesn’t Take a Vacation and Neither Does Fun!
The FCPS Summer Learning webpage offers ideas and strategies for families to keep students curious throughout the summer. It’s the perfect time to help your student explore new interests, reinforce concepts, and stay engaged!
Summer Meals for Students
Starting Monday, June 22, no-cost meals will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis at the sites and times listed on the FCPS Summer Food Service Program webpage. Students must remain on site while eating their meals.
This year, thanks to generous support from Educate Fairfax, families may also receive one no-cost breakfast and lunch per adult at the following elementary schools: Braddock, Dogwood, Glen Forest, Hutchison, Hybla Valley, and London Towne.
Summer sites will continue to be added, so please check the Summer Food webpage regularly for updates.

¡Eso es todo por ahora, Riverside!
Al cerrar el capítulo de otro año escolar, reflexiono sobre todo lo que nuestros estudiantes, el personal y las familias han logrado juntos.
Este año estuvo lleno de aprendizaje, crecimiento, celebraciones e innumerables momentos que nos recordaron por qué Riverside es un lugar tan especial. Desde el primer día de clases hasta el último, nuestros estudiantes demostraron resiliencia, curiosidad, amabilidad y determinación. Afrontaron nuevos desafíos, descubrieron nuevos intereses, forjaron amistades y alcanzaron metas que quizás no creían posibles al inicio del año.

A lo largo del año, celebramos el crecimiento académico, las presentaciones artísticas, los logros deportivos, los hitos de asistencia, los eventos familiares, las celebraciones culturales y las colaboraciones con la comunidad. Vimos a nuestros estudiantes actuar en el escenario, mostrar sus talentos, explorar futuras carreras, participar en excursiones y actividades recreativas al aire libre, y demostrar liderazgo en toda la escuela. Cada evento, cada lección y cada logro contribuyeron a hacer de este un año memorable.
A nuestras familias: gracias por su colaboración. Su apoyo, ánimo y confianza marcan una diferencia increíble en la vida de nuestros estudiantes y de nuestra comunidad escolar. Agradecemos profundamente las diversas formas en que participaron como voluntarios, asistieron a eventos, se comunicaron con los maestros y trabajaron junto a nosotros durante todo el año.

Y a nuestros estudiantes: gracias por hacer de Riverside un lugar lleno de alegría, risas, creatividad y aprendizaje. Estamos orgullosos de todo lo que han logrado este año.
Al comenzar el verano, los animo a todos a tomarse un tiempo para descansar, recargar energías, leer un buen libro, pasar tiempo con sus seres queridos y crear nuevos recuerdos. Opine sobre el recurso didáctico de matemáticas para secundaria
FCPS adoptará nuevos recursos didácticos de matemáticas para los niveles de Math 6 (solo escuela intermedia) hasta Álgebra 2 para el año escolar 2026-27. Un comité de revisión, compuesto por miembros de la comunidad, administradores y maestros, se reunió para evaluar los materiales presentados por los proveedores. Se invita al público a revisar el recurso propuesto y a dar su opinión al respecto.
Puede consultar el recurso propuesto para los niveles de Math 6 (escuela intermedia) hasta Álgebra 2, ya sea en persona o a través de la página web de Recursos Básicos de Matemáticas, desde el sábado 13 de junio hasta el domingo 12 de julio. Las personas que revisen los materiales didácticos podrán enviar sus comentarios mediante un formulario digital. Todas las opiniones de la comunidad se compartirán con el comité de revisión y con la Junta Escolar del Condado de Fairfax antes de la votación de la Junta en julio.

Los Recursos para el Verano Ayudan a que los Estudiantes se Mantengan Curiosos, Sanos y Ocupados
La Guía de FCPS de Recursos para el Verano contiene actividades y consejos sobre una variedad de temas e intereses que van desde, campamentos y actividades, hasta recursos sobre salud y seguridad.
Asegúrese de revisarla otra vez más adelante en el verano puesto que podrían agregarse nuevos recursos.
¡Aprender no Toma Vacaciones, y la Diversión Tampoco!
La página web Aprendiendo en el Verano de FCPS ofrece ideas y estrategias para que las familias mantengan viva la curiosidad de los estudiantes hasta agosto. El verano es el momento perfecto para que ayude a su estudiante a explorar nuevos intereses, reforzar conceptos aprendidos y mantenerse interesado en aprender.
Comidas para Estudiantes Durante el Verano
A partir del lunes 22 de junio, se ofrecerán comidas gratis, por orden de llegada, en los lugares y horas listados en la página web del Programa de Verano del Servicio de Comidas. Los estudiantes deberán consumir las comidas en el sitio.
Este año, gracias al generoso respaldo de Educate Fairfax, las familias pueden también recibir un desayuno y un almuerzo gratuitos por adulto, en las siguientes escuelas primarias: Braddock, Dogwood, Glen Forest, Hutchison, Hybla Valley y London Towne.
Más lugares serán agregados durante el verano, por lo que recomendamos que revise regularmente la página web.
