A Pasco police chase left him disabled

Carlos Hernandez’s life changed forever nearly five years ago when a woman fleeing Pasco County Sheriff’s Office deputies in a stolen car slammed into the lawn mower he was riding.

He went flying hundreds of feet in the air and landed in the nearby woods. He suffers from post-traumatic dementia, among other debilitating injuries.

His story offers a glimpse into how police pursuits can upend the lives of bystanders.
