Specialist Spotlight - Counseling

Growing Stronger Together!

Our Mustangs have participated in lessons using the Kimochis® curriculum, a social-emotional learning program designed to help children develop emotional awareness, self-regulation, empathy, communication skills, and positive relationships. Through stories, role-playing, and discussions, students learn how to recognize and express their feelings appropriately, resolve conflicts, practice kindness, and develop the skills needed to navigate social situations successfully.

Our students have participated in activities focused on career awareness and exploration. These conversations encouraged students to think about their interests, strengths, and future goals while learning about a variety of careers and the education and skills associated with them.

Our Mustangs have also been using The Color Monster as a tool to build emotional awareness. Through these lessons, they practiced identifying, naming, and sorting emotions while learning that all feelings are important and provide information about our experiences. Activities focused on helping students recognize emotions in themselves and others, expand their emotional vocabulary, and develop strategies for managing feelings in healthy ways.

Student Immunization Events

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) has partnered with Inspire Health Alliance, LLC (Inspire) to provide access to school-required immunizations and optional flu shots for FCPS students at multiple events taking place at designated FCPS locations throughout the school year.

  • Immunizations will be provided at no out-of-pocket costs to the student or family. Families will be required to provide insurance information, if applicable, but students without insurance may still receive immunizations with no out-of-pocket costs.
  • Participation in Inspire Immunization Events is voluntary.
  • Additional Immunization Resources are available in the community.

Eligibility

  • All students ages 18 and younger currently enrolled in an FCPS School or Center are eligible to receive immunizations at Inspire immunization events.
  • Students ages 19 and older may access free immunizations at the Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) or through other community resources.

You get more information on HERE.

Summer Office Access & Hours

Please note that our front office will have limited access this summer due to seasonal staffing adjustments and we will have ongoing building construction. When visiting, you may notice chain-link fencing around the campus that makes the school appear closed; however, we are open!

Our temporary summer hours for the public will be from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on most workdays. Because our schedule may shift due to holidays or unexpected staffing shortages, we will communicate any specific closure dates dynamically through these weekly community newsletters. We appreciate your patience and flexibility as we work to improve our facility!

Summer holidays for FCPS staff include Friday, June 19 in honor of Juneteenth and Friday, July 3 in honor of the Independence Day.

Summer Resources Help Students Stay Curious, Healthy, and Busy

The FCPS Summer Resource Guide has activities and tips on a variety of subjects and interests, from camps and activities to health and safety resources.

Be sure to check back over the summer, as more resources may be added.

Learning Doesn’t Take a Vacation and Neither Does Fun!The FCPS Summer Learning webpage offers ideas and strategies for families to keep students curious until August. Summer is the perfect time to help your student explore new interests, reinforce concepts, and stay engaged!

Summer Meals for Students

Starting Monday, June 22, no-cost meals will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis at the sites and times listed on the FCPS Summer Food Service Program webpage. Students must remain on-site while eating their meals.

This year, thanks to generous support from Educate Fairfax, families may also receive one no-cost breakfast and lunch per adult at the following elementary schools: Braddock, Dogwood, Glen Forest, Hutchison, Hybla Valley, and London Towne.

Summer sites will continue to be added, so check the Summer Food webpage regularly for updates.
