 Hello Network Members!
Thank you to everyone who was able to attend the TICN meeting on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. We had two excellent presentations and discussions.
We kicked-off with a presentation by Hilda Calvo Perez (Healthy Minds Fairfax) on a Framework to Review Policy. This is a new resource - a roadmap - for developing and reviewing policies related to the provision of behavioral health services for children, youth and families. This is a collective effort to help the TICN (you!) and HMF reach out to organizations to help use trauma-informed policy and equity lens in how you review your policies and engage families.
While our breakout discussions were brief, we hoped to ignite dialogue on how this framework can be used in your organization/organizations. Please revisit these questions with your peers and we'll continue this discussion in our October meeting. If you would like to present on how your organization is approaching polices/policy review, please let me know.
These were the discussion items:
- How relevant and applicable is this Policy Framework to your organization at this time?
- How has your organization developed policies? To your knowledge, what were the lessons learned?
- How are policies are developed in your organization? Do you know who is the responsible party?
- Is your organization in a position to operationalize this framework? Can you elaborate on that at the fall TICN meeting (i.e., get back to your organization and follow up on question 1 and 3)?
Next, Kate Reen, Director of Youth Initiatives with Northern Virginia Family Services, who leads a cross-sector workgroup for unaccompanied minors, presented on Supporting Unaccompanied Children in Fairfax County. Please refer to the attached document that includes resources for unaccompanied children.
