Accelerate

2025 ACCELERATE Report Published

ACCELERATE is an annual report that spotlights Arlington’s completed core work pertaining to energy, climate and the environment, and reflects the County’s multi-sector, cross-disciplinary approach which demonstrates its guiding whole-of-government principle. Due to the variety of on-going and completed projects, programs and policies, each report contains fresh new stories to maintain transparency, highlight Arlington’s key successes and provide education on climate- and energy-related pursuits across government activities, buildings, education and behavior change, resiliency, renewable energy and transportation sectors. Switch Together

Switch Together Arlington County

To help residents increase home comfort and savings while improving energy efficiency, Arlington County is once again partnering with Switch Together, a group buying initiative that allows residents to go solar and now buy a heat pump at a significant discount. The Switch Together team is committed to making renewable energy more affordable and accessible for everyone. Switch Together is offered in collaboration with nonprofit Solar United Neighbors (also fully available in Spanish.)

  • Heat Pumps: The newly launched program is focused on helping residents upgrade their heating and cooling systems to a heat pump system. The program is open to all homes, including those switching from natural gas or electric furnaces. Take advantage of this opportunity by registering before May 27, 2026. Learn more.
  • Rooftop Solar: Interested in solar installations, EV chargers and battery storage solutions? Through the current program, the average household is expected to save $6,323 on a high-quality solar installation. Register by August 19, 2026. Learn more.

Benchmarking

Now Available: Energy Benchmarking Resources

The County's AIRE team has recently released more energy benchmarking resources. Benchmarking is a process that building owners and managers can use to track a building’s energy, water or waste usage and then compare that performance score against similar buildings to support saving energy and costs. Building owners and managers can now access expanded guidance relevant to Affordable Housing Investment Fund (AHIF) and Green Building Incentive Policy (GBIP) properties along with new Voluntary benchmarking resources. The Future of Sustainable Transit in Northern Virginia

We are lucky in our region to have an amazing Metro system and an expansive network of bus lines - a direct result of hard work by local agencies, elected officials and advocates. Join this free, virtual session to learn about local and regional transit initiatives, opportunities and challenges in creating an even more convenient, connected and sustainable transportation network. This meeting will host expert panelists from Northern Virginia Transportation Commission, WMATA, DASH and ART, with moderating by Stewart Schwartz, Executive Director Coalition for Smarter Growth. Arlington County Board Vice-Chair, Maureen Coffey, will give opening comments. Register here.

 

Bike to work day

Register for Bike to Work Day!
Bike to Work Day is Friday, May 15! Register for one of seven event “pit stops” in Arlington, then bike there to enjoy free bike checks, refreshments and a high-energy celebration of bicycling as one of the best ways to get around Arlington car-free. EV Guides for the DMV

EVADC (Electric Vehicle Association of Greater Washington, D.C.) provides resources and tools for shopping new or used EVs and PHEVs (Plug-in Hybrids). Each month, the organization hosts a virtual meeting opportunity for participants to "Ask An EV Owner" questions. Attend the next meeting.
