GameStop, which owns a 5% equity stake in eBay, has launched an unsolicited bid to acquire the entire company for approximately $56 billion in cash and stock. The offer, revealed by CEO Ryan Cohen, proposes $125 per eBay share, a 20% premium over the previous closing price, and would unite GameStop's retail network with eBay's online marketplace. If successful, Cohen says the merger could create significant cost savings and position the new entity as a strong competitor to Amazon. EBay's board is reviewing the proposal, and Cohen has indicated a willingness to take the offer directly to shareholders if necessary.
