Migrant children are being detained longer, fewer in NYC are being released under Trump

It's Tuesday in New York City, where children who've crossed the U.S. border without a parent or guardian have been kept in federal custody nearly four times as long under the Trump administration compared to previous years.

A Gothamist analysis of federal data also found that far fewer unaccompanied minors detained in New York City have been released since President Donald Trump took office.

Here's how stricter new requirements for guardians — including fingerprinting, DNA testing and income verification — are slowing the process of releasing migrant kids from detention.

And here's what else is happening:

• Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani was breathing on his own but remained hospitalized with pneumonia yesterday, his spokesperson said.
• Police said a man was stabbed and killed near Times Square late last night.
