One of the more satisfying victories of this dismal Red Sox season may have come at a high price.
The Sox beat the Tigers, 5-4, on Monday night, overcoming a two-run deficit, shoddy defense, and a passing thunderstorm for their second victory in the last six games.
But left fielder Roman Anthony came out of the game in the second inning after injuring his right wrist on a check swing foul ball during the first.
Initial X-rays were negative, but Anthony will travel to Boston on Tuesday to get an MRI and see Dr. Matthew Leibman, the team’s hand specialist.
It was the first career victory in 10 appearances for Payton Tolle, who allowed two unearned runs on one hit over seven innings and struck out eight with one walk.
