Hello Deer Park Families,
Over the past year or so, FCPS has undergone a thorough review of existing school boundaries. This process was a multi-step, multi-phase endeavor that was undertaken for two reasons: (1) it had been more than a decade since the last review; and (2) the opening of the new high school (“Skyview High School”), which created a bevy of split-feeder schools and a great deal of uncertainty.
Phase one of the process was a county-wide review that wrapped up in January 2026. After extensive dialogue, Deer Park’s boundaries were left unaltered. This is because of you. The Deer Park community and staff rallied to ensure that Deer Park continues serving all current neighborhoods.
Phase two of the process is just beginning now, and it will look at the school pyramids impacted by the opening of Skyview HS in the fall; this includes the Westfield pyramid and Deer Park. Phase 2 will impact the 2027-28 school year and beyond. Please check out this Boundary Review tool from FCPS to see the exact changes. Here is the Skyview HS boundary review webpage from FCPS.
There are three draft scenarios currently being proposed:
-
Draft Scenario 1 would move part of the Deer Park community to London Towne ES (some of our students who live on O’Day, Raina, Brookmoor, Gunther, Woodgate Manor, Rocky Run, Baron Kent, Barros and Rinard would be affected). We would also gain a small community that currently attends Cub Run ES.
-
Draft Scenario 2 maintains the boundaries passed in January 2026, which are the same as our current boundaries.
-
Draft Scenario 3 is the same as Draft Scenario 1 for DP.
There are two community-input events currently scheduled, which will be offered in-person at Skyview HS and online through Zoom:
- Thursday, May 28, 6-8 p.m. (click here for Zoom registration)
- Saturday, May 30, 9-11 a.m. (click here for Zoom registration)
If you would like to voice an opinion on this subject, you can leave a comment on the Boundary Review tool. You can also email our School Board members:
Please reach out with any further questions.
Sincerely,
