With a fair chance of rain tomorrow, we don't want to put our Bikers at risk of skids and falls. We're rescheduling the event AND the PTA meeting to the following Wednesday May 13th.
Bike & Roll to School Day invites Cunningham Park to celebrate the joys of active commuting while building a sense of community, safety, and school spirit. On the morning of Wednesday May 13th, we'll have special guests waiting for you at the school.
After the second bell and the students have gone to class, we will hold our 3rd and final PTA meeting of the year. We'll be taking nominations from the floor to vote on next year's PTA Board. Don't miss out on coffee and breakfast pastries.
 It's that time of the month, again. Early Release Wednesday! Take some time off from work (because you can't get any done with your kids at home anyway) and join the PTA at Pupatella Pizza in the Mosaic District. Feed your kids and then send them to the green area while you enjoy hanging with friends and raising cash for the PTA for the fun of it. Mention Cunningham Park when you order. Use the promo code GIVEBACK if you are ordering online.
 Sign up and help us get an active pledge in one of our grades. Kindergarten and 6th grade are so close! Once we get to 10, you'll be notified of your fellow pledgers around whom you can build your community.
Cunningham Park is part of a larger movement across Fairfax County and the country to delay smart phones for kids. You are not alone. Parents from some of the above schools will have a booth set up at Viva Vienna May 23-25 between 12-4p. Sign up here to participate or just stop by to learn more. Meeting Recap: Wait Until Eighth, Academic Gains, and Advanced Coursework Access (April 23, 2026)
Dear Neighbor,
Last week, at the Fairfax County School Board’s regular meeting on Thursday, April 23 (agenda | video), the Board considered several important initiatives, including the passing of a resolution encouraging families to delay providing smartphones for non-essential use until after eighth grade.
Additionally, the Board accepted a Strategic Plan update focused on expanding equitable access to advanced coursework and strengthening college and career readiness. We also engaged in a lengthy discussion following a presentation on significant growth in eighth-grade Algebra 1 enrollment and continued progress in expanding access to advanced math pathways.
As always, I invite you to learn more about the various topics discussed during these meetings by reviewing the updates below. You are also welcome to attend School Board meetings (schedule) and register to share your thoughts with us during community participation (sign-up).

Last week was Cunningham Park's historic first visit to Calleva for an adventurous field trip. Great job Mrs Beans and Ms Mangels for coordinating and thank you to the PTA members for voting to fund this memorable field trip. We hope we can do this annually for every 6th grade class. You make it possible.
 
Yearbooks are available for pre-order! Yearbooks are $25 if ordered by May 31 and will be available for pickup at Cunningham Park. Yearbook purchased on or after June 1 will be $30.

INFORMACION EN ESPANOL
Con una alta probabilidad de lluvia mañana, no queremos poner a nuestros ciclistas en riesgo de resbalones y caídas. Estamos reprogramando el evento Y la reunión de la PTA para el siguiente miércoles 13 de mayo.
El Día de ir a la escuela en bicicleta o rodando invita a Cunningham Park a celebrar los beneficios del transporte activo mientras se fomenta el sentido de comunidad, la seguridad y el espíritu escolar. En la mañana del miércoles 13 de mayo, tendremos invitados especiales esperándolos en la escuela.
Después de la segunda campana y de que los estudiantes hayan entrado a clase, realizaremos nuestra tercera y última reunión de la PTA del año. Estaremos aceptando nominaciones desde el público para votar por la Junta de la PTA del próximo año.
No se pierda el café y los pasteles para el desayuno.
La semana pasada fue la histórica primera visita de Cunningham Park a Calleva para una excursión llena de aventura. ¡Excelente trabajo a la Sra. Beans y a la Sra. Mangels por la coordinación, y gracias a los miembros de la PTA por votar para financiar esta experiencia tan memorable! Esperamos poder realizarla cada año para todas las clases de 6.º grado. Ustedes lo hacen posible.
