Your Story Starts Here
Dear Kings Park Families,
At last week's Meet Me at the Library event, our marvelous music teachers, Mrs. Jordan and Mrs. Cunningham, engaged families in a variety of interactive activities that highlighted both literacy and musicianship. The rhythm of learning continues in our classrooms as SOL testing begins for our third graders. We are proud of the focus and determination they demonstrate each day and know their hard work and preparation will continue to shine through.
This week is a very special time as we celebrate Staff Appreciation Week. We are so excited to honor our amazing staff and show them how much we value their hard work and dedication to our students every single day. A huge thank you to our amazing PTA and the many families who have donated time and/or resources to help make this week filled with joy for our team.
We look forward to a wonderful month of May!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Dotty Lin, Mrs. Jenn Burke and Mrs. Anna Kaplan

Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day TOMORROW - May 6th
Get ready for Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day tomorrow, May 6th! Walking and biking to school benefits both the students and the community in several ways. Students who walk and bike get more physical activity, have more time to socialize with their friends, and develop a sense of independence and self-reliance. The community benefits from reduced pollution and traffic congestion. We encourage participants to plan a safe route in advance.
A fun way to celebrate this day is to form a “walking train” with other Kings Park friends! Meet at the bike racks (to the left of main entrance) at 8:20am to celebrate! Bus transportation will still be available and will follow the same route schedules. Kiss and Ride will still be available.
National School Nurse Day TOMORROW - May 6th
National School Nurse Day is Wednesday, May 6. It is a day to recognize the many contributions that school nurses make to student health and learning.
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) appreciates the role of School Public Health Nurses (PHNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), and School Health Specialists for their contribution to the health and welfare of all our students.
Professional school nurses support the needs of students through their delivery of healthcare, contributions to local school communities, and the promotion of safety, prevention, and wellness throughout the year. They are advocates who bridge healthcare and education by supporting student health and readiness to learn.
School nurses are essential to our community and work tirelessly to make a positive impact in the lives of their students.
Please join us in thanking the PHNs, LPNs, and Specialists for their hard work and dedication to FCPS students.
3-Hour Early Release Wednesday - May 13th (Grades K-3)
Kings Park’s last 3-hour Early Release Wednesday of the school year is Wednesday, March 13th, for students in grades K-3. Dismissal plans on record will be sent via TalkingPoints early next week. Changes to dismissal plans must be received by Monday, May 11th. Preschool follows a normal schedule that day.
Sue Fliess Author Visit - May 28th
We are excited to announce author Sue Fliess will be visiting Kings Park on Thursday, May 28th! Sue has written dozens of children’s books and will come share her expertise on being an author, getting ideas, and researching for stories. We are working with independent bookstore, Scrawl Books, to offer books for sale and signing for Sue’s Author visit. Please order books online by May 19th, at https://www.scrawlbooks.com/author-pages/sue-fliess. Select your books, go to the cart, then select school delivery as your delivery option. Choose Kings Park Elementary from the dropdown menu, and indicate your student’s name and teacher’s last name, then provide a first-name personalization if desired for book signing. Please contact Hannah Woll with any questions.
Family Information Phone Lines
FCPS family information phone lines are available in nine different languages. An FCPS employee will respond to your call in your preferred language within 24 hours, Monday through Friday.
Call the phone line with questions about your child’s education or FCPS, and someone will help connect you to resources or arrange for you to speak to the appropriate school employee. Learn more about family information phone lines.
Attendance Matters
Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow. We All Belong Here!
In FCPS, we all belong. From the first day of school, to the last day of school, every child matters. If your student is having a hard time finishing the year strong and attending school, please contact a trusted adult at our school — a teacher, counselor, or administrator. Visit FCPS’ website for more attendance resources.
