Integrated HIV Prevention and Care Plan: Due June 30
Integrated planning is a vehicle for jurisdictions to identify HIV prevention and care needs, existing resources, barriers and gaps, and outline local strategies to address them. The Integrated Plan submission fulfills legislative and programmatic requirements and should articulate existing and needed collaborations among people with HIV, service providers, funded program implementers, and other collaborators.
The Integrated HIV Prevention and Care Plan Guidance, including the Statewide Coordinated Statement of Need, CY 2027–2031, is the third five-year planning guidance developed by CDC and HRSA. Jurisdictions must submit their Integrated Plans by June 30, 2026.

National Sample Survey of Registered Nurses Underway
Since 1977, HRSA has conducted the National Sample Survey of Registered Nurses (NSSRN), the primary source of data on the U.S. nursing workforce. Survey invitations were mailed earlier this year, and paper copies of the survey will soon be sent to selected nurses. Responses are needed before the survey closes this summer.
- Watch for a letter in the U.S. mail from the U.S. Census Bureau. If you are selected to participate, please complete the survey.
- If you work with nurses who receive the survey, please encourage them to complete it.

HRSA Highlights Opportunities for Health Centers to Advance Nutrition-Focused Care
HRSA recently issued a Dear Colleague Letter encouraging more than 1,400 HRSA-funded health centers nationwide to expand efforts to promote proper nutrition as part of the Administration’s broader Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) initiative. Health centers play a pivotal role in chronic disease prevention and treatment, serving more than 32 million patients and helping them achieve better health outcomes.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued revised Dietary Guidelines for Americans with a simple message: Eat real food. The Guidelines prioritize whole, healthy, and nutritious foods and limit highly processed foods, added sugars, and refined carbohydrates. HRSA is sharing these educational resources with health centers and encouraging providers to incorporate the updated Guidelines into patient education efforts.

Hepatitis Awareness Month and Hepatitis Testing Day
This month, HRSA’s HIV/AIDS Bureau recognized May as Hepatitis Awareness Month and observed May 19 as Hepatitis Testing Day, highlighting the role hepatitis C prevention, screening, and treatment has in the care of people served by the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program (RWHAP).
HIV and hepatitis C co-infection remains an important clinical concern among the populations served by the RWHAP. Estimates suggest that approximately 1 in 5 people with HIV in the United States have experienced hepatitis C co-infection. Co-infection is associated with more rapid progression of liver disease and increased risk of serious health outcomes, reinforcing the importance of routine hepatitis C screening and timely access to treatment. Today, highly effective therapies can cure hepatitis C for most people, making early identification and care especially impactful.
The RWHAP has an important role in supporting access to comprehensive, patient-centered care. In 2024, the program served more than 600,000 people with HIV, with 91.4% reaching viral suppression, demonstrating the impact of coordinated care, treatment access, and support services across providers, recipients, and partners. These same systems support efforts to identify and treat hepatitis C and other co-occurring conditions. Integrating hepatitis C prevention, screening, and treatment into HIV care remains an important part of this work and supports a more comprehensive approach to managing chronic conditions.
Through the RWHAP Part F AIDS Education and Training Center Program’s National Clinical Consultation Center, providers have access to training and expert consultation to support hepatitis C screening, diagnosis, and treatment. The RWHAP also continues to support innovative, data-informed approaches that strengthen linkage to care and improve outcomes for people with HIV and hepatitis C.
This work aligns with the Department of Health and Human Services’ priority to Make America Healthy Again by fighting chronic disease conditions through prevention, early detection, and coordinated care, and reflects the ongoing commitment across the RWHAP to delivering high-quality, integrated care.
2024 National HIV Data Released
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has released new national HIV data showing improvements in care and treatment outcomes in 2024, including a slight increase in viral suppression among all people living with HIV from 67 percent to 69 percent. Among people newly diagnosed with HIV, 83 percent were linked to care within one month, consistent with 2023 levels.

CDC Releases Updated Perinatal HIV Clinical Guidelines
An updated version of the Recommendations for the Use of Antiretroviral Drugs During Pregnancy and Interventions to Reduce Perinatal HIV Transmission in the United States was released earlier this year. The updates include new guidance for oral and long-acting injectable pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) options for preventing HIV transmission from receptive vaginal sex during periconception, antepartum, and postpartum periods, and updates to antiretroviral therapy initiation. The Panel on Treatment of HIV During Pregnancy and Prevention of Perinatal also recommends that everyone be tested for hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) with every pregnancy.
National Maternal Mental Health Hotline
May is Mental Health Awareness Month — and a reminder that support is available for pregnant and postpartum women experiencing mental health challenges.
The National Maternal Mental Health Hotline offers free, confidential support 24/7 by call, text, and now chat. Trained counselors provide emotional support, information, and referrals to local resources for pregnant and postpartum women and their loved ones.
Since launching on Mother’s Day in 2022, the Hotline has supported more than 100,000 people, helping to connect them to care when they need it most. We encourage you to share this resource with your patients, clients, partners, and communities. You can also print and order free promotional materials — including posters, magnets, and wallet cards — to display and distribute in your settings.
