Class Action Suit Targets Repair Monopoly On “Yellow” Deere Equipment

A new class-action lawsuit accuses manufacturers, including John Deere and its iconic “Yellow” construction machines, of using repair restrictions and software locks to block independent repair. For example, Deere wouldn't sell a customer a part for his $100K hay baler; check out this this video from Glease Man on YouTube, where he reverse engineers and manufactures a custom shaft.

iFixit in the Wild: Custom cyberpunk jacket

So this is pretty cool. Friend of iFixit Evan Brand (@mementomechanica) and his friend Sasha (@sashur.c) attended Neotropolis, a week-long cyberpunk event, wearing a custom, fully functional jacket with our tools mounted on it, calling himself an in-character "cybernetics tuneup station."

After he brought some iFixit tools to last year's event and people were coming to his trailer to fix their costumes, he was inspired to make it mobile. Attendees could literally walk up to him and use the tools right off his jacket, and apparently it was a huge hit!
