I finally started reading that book you recommended. I was skeptical at first because the first few chapters felt slow, but once I got past the middle, I couldn't put it down. The character development is incredible, and the plot twists caught me completely off guard. I think you'd really enjoy the sequel too, though I haven't finished the whole series yet.
