| | | Hello. US President Donald Trump has made sweeping claims about Chinese interference in the 2020 election - we'll bring you more. We report on the hundreds of Rohingyas who vanished at sea. And watch as a bridge is dramatically demolished. | | | | | | |
| TOP OF THE AGENDA | | Trump accuses China of election meddling and questions voting security | | | | | Trump also alleged voter registration fraud during his address. Credit: EPA | | China tried to sway the 2020 election in Joe Biden's favour, Trump has alleged in a primetime address delivered three months before the midterms. The US president has repeatedly made unsubstantiated claims that the election, which he lost to Biden, was rigged, and plagued by voter fraud and foreign meddling. He said he had declassified intelligence files which supported his claims about Beijing - but the US intelligence community has previously concluded China did not interfere and Beijing called Trump's allegations "entirely fabricated". The president delivered his speech after a new poll suggested his approval rating had fallen to 37%. Democrats accused him of attempting to sow doubts about the security of the upcoming midterms which will decide control of Congress for the remainder of his presidency. | | | | | | | - SAVE America Act: In his speech Trump also called for the passing of his act which has been stalled in the Senate for months. Here's what to know.
- Mail-in-ballots: Last month, the Supreme Court ruled states can count postal ballots received late, in a defeat for Trump.

| | | BEYOND THE HEADLINES | | What happened to the 530 Rohingyas who disappeared at sea? | | | | | | | Many Rohingyas used to head to Indonesia by boat. Credit: AFP via Getty Images | | The equivalent of a jumbo jet full of people has vanished. Two boats carrying hundreds of Rohingya asylum seekers left Myanmar on 29 June. They have not been heard from since. It's thought that the boats likely capsized, leaving few or no survivors - but we will never know for certain, writes South East Asia correspondent Jonathan Head. An estimated 600,000 Rohingyas live in Rakhine State which is caught up in Myanmar's deadly civil war, and where the Muslim ethnic minority faces persecution. "With such dire prospects, the Rohingyas' only hope is to get out to another country," Jonathan says - but this has created a lucrative business opportunity for people smugglers. | | | | | | |
