The magnitude of the turnaround is shocking.
For three months, the Red Sox offense seemed not merely bad but hopeless. The power-deficient lineup ranked among the worst in baseball through 76 games, managing just 3.9 runs per game. Even an improvement to mediocrity seemed hard to imagine.
Yet over the last two months, the Sox have achieved a complete reversal. From June 25 through Sunday, their average of 5.4 runs per game ranked second in the big leagues. The club’s average of 6.0 runs per game in August leads baseball.
