Hi Adam,
RenAlign is starting in just 2 weeks (Sept 10)! Since our remaining Strategy & Fit Calls are filling up, I thought I'd answer a few of the questions that come up most often.
For more details, we've also put together a comprehensive FAQ page on our website.
Is RenAlign right for my stage of CKD?
RenAlign is designed for adults with CKD stages 1–5, whether you were recently diagnosed or have been managing CKD for years.
The program is not currently appropriate for people who are pregnant, receiving dialysis, or anyone who requires a higher level of specialized renal nutrition care.
I've already made changes. How would I benefit from joining RenAlign?
This is actually one of my favorite questions because many of our participants have already been working hard and making real changes before they join RenAlign. They've read articles, met with a dietitian, tried making changes, and genuinely want to do everything they can for their kidneys, but still wonder whether they're on the right track. Maybe you've adjusted your diet for months but aren't seeing the progress you hoped for, or you're just simply unsure what to change next.
That's where RenAlign can help. Instead of continuing to piece together advice on your own, you'll have your own personal dietitian to help you interpret your progress, refine your nutrition plan, and make practical adjustments.
On the other hand, if your kidney function has remained stable and you feel confident in your nutrition plan, you may not need a structured program like RenAlign.
Many people, though, fall somewhere in between. They're looking for the reassurance that their plan is appropriate and the support to keep moving forward with confidence. RenAlign provides that through ongoing dietitian guidance, weekly feedback, and community support, so you don’t have to navigate every decision on your own.
Will my nutrition plan actually be personalized?
Absolutely. In fact, personalization is one of the biggest reasons we created RenAlign in the first place.
You'll meet individually with your renal dietitian three times throughout the program.
Your first session focuses on your lab work, medications, health history, routines, and goals. Midway through the program, you'll review your progress and fine-tune your approach. Your final session helps you identify what's working well and develop a practical plan moving forward.
Each week, your dietitian also reviews your food log and provides personalized feedback based on your eating habits and food preferences. Questions about travel, restaurant meals, family routines, changing lab results, or everyday situations are all part of the conversation.
Do I need to completely change the way I eat?
Another question I hear a lot is whether everyone has to eat the same way, or follow a strict meal plan.
The answer is no. RenAlign uses a plant-dominant (PLADO) framework that is personalized to your health needs, food preferences, and current eating habits.
Your weekly food log helps your dietitian understand what's already working so recommendations build naturally from there. Most participants make gradual adjustments over time rather than replacing everything overnight or following a rigid meal plan.
You'll also receive six meal plans and more than 80 kidney-friendly recipes to use as inspiration and practical starting points for your meal planning.
But no, you do not need to become vegetarian or vegan to participate.
How much time does RenAlign take?
Plan for about one hour each week for the live class (or to review the class recording), plus a little time to review your dietitian's feedback and put what you're learning into practice.
Food logging takes a bit longer during the first couple of weeks while you're getting familiar with the app, but it becomes much quicker with practice. Your dietitian will also help you find meal planning strategies that fit your schedule.
If you cannot attend live classes because of work, travel, or living in a different time zone, don’t worry because every class is recorded, and you'll have lifetime access to all recordings and program materials.
I hope this helped answer some of the questions you've been thinking about.
Whether you decide RenAlign is right for you this September or not, I want you to feel like you have the information you need to make the decision that's best for you.
If there's something I didn't cover, you can explore our RenAlign FAQ page, book one of our last-minute Strategy & Fit Calls, or simply email us at support@knicare.org. We're always happy to talk through your individual situation.
If September feels like the right time, I'd absolutely love to welcome you into our next RenAlign group.
