Hey Ola,
Want to know if your hair is actually damaged?
There's a ten-second check for it. I do it on every new client in my chair before I even pick up the dryer.
Don't start with the ends.
Look at the middle.
Take a section of hair and look for short little pieces sticking out through the mid-lengths.
A lot of people call those "baby hairs" or write them off as texture.
Sometimes that's all they are.
But a bunch of short pieces through the middle of your hair usually means one thing...
That’s breakage.
And this is where people get dryness and damage mixed up.
Dryness usually shows up at the ends. Rough, thirsty, hard to smooth.
Damage shows up as hair breaking where it shouldn’t.
If it's dry ends, the fix is putting moisture back into the strand and keeping it there. That's what a real routine does.
If it's true breakage, that's what bond repair is for. Your hair can't heal itself (remember, it's dead), but bond-building chemistry is real, and breakage is the one time I point clients straight to it.
So before you decide your hair is damaged...
Take ten seconds. Look at your mids.
Once you know which one you’re dealing with, hair gets a lot easier.
Talk soon, Chris
