iza,
One of our members, Janan, manages the bills for an anxious client. Every month she'd ask, “This bill is due, do you have the money?” And every month the client's anxiety became Janan's anxiety, on Janan's evenings.
Her Boost Mode coach handed her a different sentence. (Boost Mode is the 1:1 accountability program our Lifehack Tribe members can add on.) The new sentence: “I will pay this bill on the 1st of September, from this account.” A statement, with a date, about what Janan will do.

“Boundaries create safety.”

The client calmed down almost immediately. As Coach Elsa put it on the call, “The stock market runs more on expectations than performance. And clients are the same.” People don't need you available at 9pm. They need to know exactly what they can count on you for. When they know, they stop checking. When they stop checking, your evenings come back.
The data says most of us leave people guessing. Gallup keeps finding that only 47% of employees strongly agree they know what's expected of them at work. Half the people around you are guessing, and guessing people interrupt, escalate, and ping you at night.
The fix is one move: REPLACE ONE RECURRING CHECK-IN WITH ONE DECLARATIVE SENTENCE. What you will do, and when. “I will send the report every Friday at 3.” Then keep it.
That sentence is also the first brick in getting your brain to log off when your laptop does. The full method for that is here:
Tonight, the bill gets paid on the 1st either way. Janan gets to have her evening. So do you. |
