FCPS School Year Calendar
Hello Eagles,
It has been another great week at Edison High School!
As our students continue to adjust to Virginia's statewide law on personal devices, thank you for your ongoing partnership at home. We appreciate you talking with your students about keeping their phones, smartwatches, earbuds, and personal computers away for the day from 8:10 a.m. to 2:55 p.m. We see so many of our students do the right thing every day, and we are truly proud of their efforts.
It has also been exciting to watch our students lean into everything Edison has to offer—connecting with staff about their future goals, getting involved in clubs, activities, and athletics, and taking on challenging coursework. I may be biased, but I truly believe we have the best student body and staff in FCPS, and I look forward to seeing all that our community will accomplish together this year.
Additionally, to all our students, families, and staff who celebrate, we wish you a very happy National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15–October 15).
As a reminder, school will be closed on Monday, September 21, 2026, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Tuesday. As always, thank you for your continued support, and please reach out with any questions, feedback, or concerns.

Fairfax County Public Schools is committed to challenging all students through talent development and differentiated instruction. Twice-Exceptional (2e) learners are students who are both gifted and have learning challenges or disabilities.
Families can learn more about 2e learners, how to support them, and how to partner with schools on the 2e webpage, which also includes a link to the Special Education Handbook.
New information, including printable flyers, has been added under the heading Supporting 2e Learners in FCPS.

In alignment with FCPS Regulation 1502, schools ensure that students and staff of all religious backgrounds have reasonable accommodation and access to meditation and silent reflection space within the school building.
FCPS supports students who need to take time during the school day to practice as their faith requires. If your student needs to be excused from a portion of at least one class to meditate and pray, please complete the google form: https://forms.gle/UCQsmZrg8BiNcbx76 to provide permission for your student to regularly miss instructional time to access our meditation and silent reflection space. This would mean that your student would regularly miss instructional time. By doing so, your student will be responsible for all work that needs to be completed or made up.

Session B: September 30th and October 1st and 2nd. Don't miss this opportunity to be photographed for the yearbook! The required attire for the school's yearbook pose are traditional tuxedos and drapes; provided by VOS! Prepare for your child’s future at College Fair and Postsecondary Night. The annual FCPS College Fair will be held Sunday, October 18, from 4 to 6 p.m., at the George Mason University Eagle Bank Arena. Approximately 200 colleges and universities will be represented, including two- and four-year schools and U.S. Service Academies.
The virtual postsecondary night event will be held on Monday, October 19, from 5 to 8 p.m. Both events will help students prepare for the next chapter of their educational journey. Learn more about the College Fair and postsecondary virtual event.
The FCPS 2023-30 Strategic Plan sets five main goals to create positive change in the division. These goals show where we should focus our attention and will help us align our efforts.
The third goal is for all students to achieve academic growth and excellence. We want our students to have the academic skills to be successful, including reading on level by third grade. See how Goal 3 is being put into practice.

School is better when your child is here! But we do understand that some days, they may feel unwell. Learn more about which symptoms are ok at school (like sneezing or sniffles), and when your child should stay home (if they have a fever, diarrhea, or vomiting, for example).
If your child has a chronic illness, make sure to notify the school so that assistance can be provided if needed. Keep an open line of communication with your school public health nurse. Call the school as soon as you know your child will be absent and, if possible, let them know how long you think they will be out.

Since 2023, FCPS has partnered with Hazel Health to offer virtual mental health services to FCPS high school students. These services became available to students enrolled in all FCPS middle schools on July 1.
Parents are encouraged to contact Hazel Health directly if they are seeking mental health support for their child, have noticed changes in their child’s mood or behavior, or are having difficulty connecting with a therapist in the community.
To make it easier for families to access services, FCPS has partnered with Hazel Health to streamline the referral process. Parents can visit the Hazel Health in FCPS website to enroll their child in services or visit the FCPS Teletherapy webpage for more information.

Family Assistance Questionnaire
Edison High School is committed to ensuring that all our students have the resources and support they need throughout the school year to reach their full potential in school and within the community. The Family Assistance Questionnaire is entirely optional and confidential. You only need to complete the questionnaire if you are interested in receiving assistance (such as community resource information and grocery gift cards over holiday breaks). The questionnaire is available online in English and Spanish. Paper copies and questionnaires in other languages are available upon request.
