Student Representative Report
Fairfax High School senior Kevin Murray serves as this year’s student representative to the City of Fairfax School Board. Kevin provides a student perspective during meetings and shares updates from all four City schools.
World Language Camp Presentation
The Board received an update on the City of Fairfax Schools World Language Camp. The School Board sponsors the summer program to provide enrichment and academic opportunities for students entering grades 5–7. Campers explore Spanish, Latin, French and German through culture, food, sports, music, games and other activities. The camp is led by Fairfax High School instructors with assistance from student honor society members. See the presentation here.
Tuition Bill and FCPS Fiscal Forecast
FCPS staff presented the annual tuition bill and fiscal forecast, including updated enrollment information for City of Fairfax students and FCPS operating costs.
Under the City’s school services agreement with FCPS, the City pays tuition for City students attending FCPS-operated City schools. These annual enrollment and financial projections are an important part of developing the City School Board’s upcoming budget and closing out the previous fiscal year. See the presentation here.
Blenheim Boulevard Project Update
City of Fairfax Transportation Director Wendy Sanford updated the Board on the Blenheim Boulevard construction project and its impact on Fairfax High School. The project affects Fairfax High School and Daniels Run ES. This presentation focused on seating features on Blenheim Blvd near FHS. See the presentation here.
Capital Projects Update
Superintendent Dr. Dustin Wright and representatives from the City’s architecture teams updated the Board on the renovations planned for Daniels Run Elementary School and Providence Elementary School. These are major, multiyear investments in our school facilities and these regular updates allow the Board and community to follow the design process, project timelines and upcoming milestones as the renovations move toward construction. Opening Schools Report
Dr. Wright presented the annual Opening Schools Report, including opening enrollment numbers for all four City schools and updates on summer facility projects. Projects highlighted included the new security vestibule at Providence Elementary School, the new turf field at Fairfax High School and the new electrical classroom at Fairfax High School.
