Monday September 21, is a holiday and schools and offices will be closed.
May all in our Jewish community observing Yom Kippur have an easy and meaningful fast. Yom Kippur is the holiest day of the Jewish year. This day is also known as the Day of Atonement and many Jews spend the day in prayer and fasting.

Good afternoon Newington Forest Families,
It was another busy week in the Forest.
- We held a Lockdown Drill this week for all students in grades 1–6. Beforehand, teachers reviewed the appropriate protocols and procedures with their students, and everyone did a wonderful job during the drill.
- We hosted our Parent Workshop: "Setting the Stage for a Great School Year" on Tuesday and 26 parents participated virtually. We hope everyone found the information and resources helpful for their children. Thank you, Ms. Howard, for organizing this helpful workshop for our families.
- Over 70 Knights in grades 1-6 participated in the Summer Reading Program this year and we celebrated with 2 popsicle parties for all participants. Thank you to Mrs. Sharrett and Mrs. Butters for your help with organizing the program, and for coordinating the parties.
What's coming up next week:
- We have 40 girls in grades 3-6 registered for the NFES Girls on the Run team! Their first practice kicks off next week - Tuesday, September 22, 2026. Good luck, girls!
Please remember that FCPS will be closed on Monday, September 21, 2026, in observance of Yom Kippur. To all who celebrate, we wish you a meaningful Yom Kippur.

See it. Try it. Learn it together!
Join your child for a fun, interactive evening where families can explore classroom learning, participate in hands-on activities, and discover ways to support learning at home. Teachers will share curriculum highlights, helpful strategies, and activities for parents/guardians and children to experience together.
Families can choose up to three sessions and take home fun activity kits to keep the learning going. Topics will include Math, Reading, Science, Study Skills, Social-Emotional Learning & More!

South County High School Junior Stallionettes Dance Team Clinic
The South County Dance Team is hosting a Junior Stallionette Clinic where
dancers will learn a routine alongside the team and perform it together during
halftime of the Homecoming football game. The clinic will include instruction
in dance technique and performance skills.
Who: All children K–8 grade
When: Monday, October 12 from 9:00am–12:00pm
Where: South County High School in the Yoga Studio and Bubble, and we will
practice on the field from 11:30am–12:00pm
Price: $75.00 (includes a t-shirt, hairbow, and snack)
Homecoming Game: Friday, October 16.

Fall 2026 Saturday Enrichment Program (SEP)
The William & Mary Center for Gifted Education is excited to share our upcoming Fall 2026 Saturday Enrichment Program (SEP) opportunities. SEP offers engaging, academically challenging courses designed to encourage students to explore their interests, think creatively, and learn alongside other students who share their enthusiasm for learning.
The upcoming program dates are:

Twice Exceptional Students
Fairfax County Public Schools is committed to challenging all students through talent development and differentiated instruction. Twice-Exceptional (2e) learners are students who are both gifted and have learning challenges or disabilities.
Families can learn more about 2e learners, how to support them, and how to partner with schools on the 2e webpage, which also includes a link to the Special Education Handbook.
New information, including printable flyers, has been added under the heading Supporting 2e Learners in FCPS.

Immunization Events for FCPS Students
FCPS, in partnership with Inspire Health Alliance, will be providing school-required immunizations and optional flu shots for all FCPS students, ages 18 and under, with no out-of-pocket costs. Multiple events will take place at designated FCPS locations.
Additional dates will be made available throughout the school year. Parents or guardians may view upcoming events and schedule an appointment for their student. Participation is voluntary. Additional immunization resources are also available.
FCPS Cares is an opportunity for parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. We invite you to submit your story so we can all acknowledge the good work of our Newington Forest staff members. |
