 Our Cougars are off to a strong start! During our daily classroom walkthroughs, we see students settling comfortably into their routines and building a strong sense of community across Annandale Terrace.
To support this positive start, students are engaging in key schoolwide lessons:
• Cougar Pride Program: Teachers are guiding lessons on what it means to be respectful, responsible, and safe every day.
• Student Rights and Responsibilities: Classes are wrapping up discussions on how students' choices, actions, and interactions help build a supportive school environment.
We ground this work in our core Annandale Terrace expectations—Respectful, Responsible, and Safe—helping students see and hear what these standards look like in their daily school experience.
When students understand both their rights and their responsibilities, they are better equipped to advocate for themselves, support one another, and take ownership of our shared community.

This week at Annandale Terrace, we received a generous donation of school supplies from the Clifton Lions Club and the Burke Lion's Club. These thoughtful gifts will help ensure our students have all the tools they need for a successful school year.

- Wednesday, September 23rd: Attendance Today, Achieve Tomorrow! Wear college attire or ATES school spirit to promote schools now and in the future!
- Thursday, September 24th: Great Attendance is TIED to Great Learning! Wear tie dye clothing or a tie!
- Friday, September 25th: Roll Out of Bed and Get to School! Wear pajamas or comfy clothes!

 The Family Engagement Committee is sponsoring the Student-Parent Lunch Day on Friday, September 25, 2026. Parents are invited to have lunch with their students during their lunch time. This event is part of increasing family engagement at ATES and providing parents an opportunity to come to school. Fairfax County Public Schools is committed to challenging all students through talent development and differentiated instruction. Twice-Exceptional (2e) learners are students who are both gifted and have learning challenges or disabilities.
Families can learn more about 2e learners, how to support them, and how to partner with schools on the 2e webpage, which also includes a link to the Special Education Handbook.

School is better when your child is here! But we do understand that some days, they may feel unwell. Learn more about which symptoms are ok at school (like sneezing or sniffles), and when your child should stay home (if they have a fever, diarrhea, or vomiting, for example).
If your child has a chronic illness, make sure to notify the school so that assistance can be provided if needed. Keep an open line of communication with your school public health nurse. Call the school as soon as you know your child will be absent and, if possible, let them know how long you think they will be out.

The FCPS 2023-30 Strategic Plan sets five main goals to create positive change in the division. These goals show where we should focus our attention and will help us align our efforts.
The third goal is for all students to achieve academic growth and excellence. We want our students to have the academic skills to be successful, including reading on level by third grade. See how Goal 3 is being put into practice.
The FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) booklet explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment. This year’s SR&R includes new Universal Grade Matrices, which are at-a-glance charts that make it easier for families to see behavior expectations and school responses for grades K-3, 4-8, and 9-12.
Families, please review the SR&R and discuss these expectations with your child. Be sure to sign the SR&R acknowledgement form by Wednesday, September 30, either by logging into SIS ParentVUE or signing and returning the Signature Sheet to your child’s school.

K-5 students will be dismissed @12:20pm on 09/30 to allow educators time for planning & training. However, we understand there may be a childcare hardship due to the early release. To resolve these concerns, student supervision will be available for families who need it. FCPS, in partnership with Inspire Health Alliance, will be providing school-required immunizations and optional flu shots for all FCPS students, ages 18 and under, with no out-of-pocket costs. Multiple events will take place at designated FCPS locations.
Additional dates will be made available throughout the school year. Parents or guardians may view upcoming events and schedule an appointment for their student. Participation is voluntary. Additional immunization resources are also available.
 Culmore Community Day is scheduled on Saturday, September 19th from 10:00am to 2:00pm at Culmore Family Resource Center. Join them to celebrate Hispanic and Latin American Heritage Month.
 George Mason Regional Library is holding its Fall Book Sale with a large selection of books at unbelievably low prices! The library is located at 7001 Little River Turnpike in Annandale from September 24 through September 27.
In the children’s category there are hundreds of volumes of new and gently used picture books, board books, and early readers. Categories include classics, storybooks, holidays, foreign language, non-fiction and many, many more.
 12 in-person free sessions of Dad's Parenting Group will be held on Tuesdays from 6:00-8:30pm from September 8th to November 24th, 2026. Call 703-324-7720 for the registration if you are interested.
 Registration is officially OPEN for the first session on September 21!
Campers will have exclusive access to workshops with professional graphic artists learning to plan, write, imagine, and design their own graphic novel elements. Each day camp will offer new skills and perspectives to learn.
