Fall Weekly Recaps
Golf took on district power Edison on Thursday. The Atoms hung tough against the Eagles but in the end were no match as the Eagles ran away with a 159-181 win. The Atoms complete their regular season Thursday vs Mt. Vernon before the National District Tournament Monday, September 28 at Twin Lakes.
Girls Volleyball played two more district games this week vs Falls Church and Hayfield. Monday evening saw the Atoms trail two sets to zero before grinding their way back in the third and fourth set to bring the match to a deciding fifth set. The fifth set was all Atoms as they ran away to get the 3-2 win over the Jaguars and stay undefeated in the district. Wednesday was a trip to Hayfield that unfortunately saw the Atoms have the favor returned to them. Leading 2-0, the Hawks ripped off the next three steal the win. The Atoms welcome the Majors to campus Tuesday.
Boys Volleyball played three games last week, two of which were district. The Atoms traveled to Falls Church, where the Jaguars overpowered the Atoms to get the 3-0 win. Next was a home game vs Meridian. It was a similar result as the Mustangs won 3-0. Playing their third game in three days, the Atoms showed some skill as they dominated the Hawks in the first two sets. However, they couldn't put them away as the Hawks came back to get the 3-2 win. The Atoms travel to Mt. Vernon Tuesday.
Field Hockey played two games this week and came away with a 2-0 record for the week. First was a district game at Lewis Monday evening. The Atoms scored early and often on their way to a 6-0 win. Wednesday was a non-district game vs Herndon that saw a competitive game throughout. The Atoms led 2-0 before the Hornets put one in the net to make it 2-1. The Atoms held off the Hornets on a final corner to seal the win. Next is a home district game vs Justice Tuesday.
Football traveled up 495 two exits to Falls Church Friday evening. The game was a tale of two halves for both teams as the Jaguars controlled possession in the first half taking a 14-0 lead into the break. However, the second half belonged to the Atoms as their defense clamped down and their offense took over the possession game. The Atoms scored late in the third quarter to cut the score to 14-7. The Atoms then faced a long third down only to see Hamza Bah break a 70+ yard run with the extra point to knot the score at 14. The Atoms defense faced a fourth and two from the two yard line and came up with a HUGE stop to give the ball back with under five to play. The Atoms again faced a long third down and this time Noah Plank called his own number to the tune of an 85 yard touchdown run to give the Atoms the 21-14 lead. The defense stopped the Jaguars on fourth and three to secure the comeback win!. The Atoms travel to Park View, which will be played at Dominion High School, Friday evening.
Boys and Girls Cross Country had a great showing Wednesday as the boys team finished in first place for the meet! The Atoms were paced by second place finished John Mahoney and third place finisher Leland Richardson. The girls ran well as well as they were led by second place finisher Alice Banks.
Friday Night Lights UPDATES
Starting this fall there are updates coming to Friday Night Football Games! Starting with the first home football game on Thursday, September 3, all spectators will follow updated entry and bag policy guidelines that can be found below:
To help provide a safe and enjoyable experience and to expedite entrance into FCPS athletic events, students, family members and all spectators are reminded that the following items are prohibited:
- Backpacks
- Large Purse
- Fanny Pack
- Tote Bags
- Outside food and beverage
- Sporting equipment (balls, bats, sticks, etc.)
Middle-school students and younger must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Approved bags are limited to:
- Clear plastic, vinyl, or pvc bags
- Small clutch bag no larger than 4.5” x 6.5”
- Medical and diaper bags permitted but subject to inspection
ATC Holding Auditions for Fall Play
Annandale Theatre Company is holding auditions for our fall play, September 16, 17, & 18, Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Our production will be set in modern times and in a dystopian Verona, Italy. Atoms Boosters Passes
The Atoms Booster Club’s All-Season passes are back! This year our Atoms Athletic Boosters is transitioning to a digital format for the all-season passes. The developers are still working on it, and it will be rolled out soon.
Pricing for the '26-'27 season will be, Adult - $80, Student - $40, and Parking Pass - $30.
The "Atoms Pass" provides you general admission access to all regular season home football, baseball, basketball, soccer, field hockey, lacrosse, volleyball, and wrestling events. With more than nine sports showcased, you can save BIG with the all-season pass!

Field Hockey Youth Clinic
Do you have a K-8 grader who is interested in playing field hockey?! Then sign up for our youth clinics and learn more about the game while working on skills and development to become a better field hockey player. Clinics will run Saturday mornings from September 12 to October 17!

Each fall, our sports programs sell a discount “Red Card” to raise money for their teams. The red cards include various discounts at local businesses including: Glory Days, Subways, Jet’s Pizza, Kilroy’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, Dairy Queen, Lucky Strike, and AHS Sports Camps. FinalForms allows you to complete and sign athletic forms for your students online. FCPS and FinalForms have worked closely to ensure that your most sensitive information is safeguarded and meets all of FCPS’ rigorous data protection requirements.

New VHSL Transfer Information
ALL TRANSFER STUDENTS by default are INELIGIBLE. More information can be found on the FCPS Website.
The NEW Guardian application process must be started before the transfer students is considered "bona fide".
ALL Transfer students must complete the Guardian application process to be declared eligible.
NO TRANSFER IS ELIGIBLE UNTIL THERE IS NOTICE FROM THE GUARDIAN SYSTEM THAT INCLUDES A VHSL CITATION AND POST SEASON ELIGIBILITY.
