Drake Maye finally snapped out of his funk last Sunday in Buffalo. Trailing, 17-14, at halftime, Maye completed 14 of 22 passes for 158 yards and two touchdowns in the second half as the Patriots fought back for a 29-26 victory.
According to Josh McDaniels, the Patriots didn’t press a magic button to get Maye going.
“I know this is hard to believe,” the offensive coordinator said Thursday, “but we didn’t really do anything different from Week 1 to Week 2 to Week 3 to Week 4.”
I went back this week and watched all 142 of Maye’s dropbacks this year (including sacks and scrambles), and true to McDaniels’s statement, I didn’t see drastic changes in the scheme.
